Why is it better to travel the Amalfi Coast by sea?
Avoid traffic - All the seaside towns along the Amalfi Coast utilize the same road, State Route 163. The road has only one lane in each direction and sharp curves along the coastline. Traffic is a chronic problem due to all the vehicles in the summer. Buses have the same traffic problems and often there aren't enough buses to meet demand. Those traveling with their own car have to consider where to park. Parking is expensive throughout the Amalfi Coast, and parking lots are often already full by the early hours of the morning.
Enjoy the view - Traveling by ferry you can take in the splendid coastline view, admiring the iconic cliffs rising up from the water. It's an excellent opportunity to take postcard-perfect photos without having to book a more expensive boat tour.
Arrive directly in the center - In places like Positano, State Route 163 is located in the upper area of the town. That means tourists have to walk a while to get down to the beach and town center, and the return trip is an uphill climb. The ferry, on the other hand, puts you directly in the center of the action without any tiring staircases.
